Premier League Matchday 03 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2019/20

It’s week three of the EPL starting on Friday night with Aston Villa against Everton.

Most of the top six dropped points last week, with only Liverpool and Arsenal maintaining a perfect record. At least one of those teams will lose that record on Saturday though, as Liverpool host Arsenal in the evening kick-off.

Match of the Day

This one is without doubt the match of the day. These two teams are the only ones with a perfect two wins from two games, but at least one of them will lose that record here. All things point to Arsenal being the unlucky ones.

  • Venue: Anfield
  • Saturday 24 August 17:30
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 9/20 D: 4/1 A: 19/4

About the Game:

Liverpool weren’t exactly convincing against Southampton last week. Still, they got the win, and have won both their opening games, despite not keeping a clean sheet.

Klopp will keep a similar team, but has a few questions. Matip got the nod ahead of Joe Gomez last week, while Milner or Henderson will play in midfield. The league’s deadliest trio is sure to start upfront, with Sadio Mane outclassing Mo Salah last week. Salah will want to get back in the goals, and is likely to do so against an Arsenal team that is leaky on the road.

Bet on Liverpool v Arsenal at Coral

Arsenal have won their opening fixtures for the first time in a long time. They will have to be at their best to avoid defeat in their third math though.

Emery has done some good business over the summer, With Ceballos looking great in the last match. Is this a new Arsenal to the team of recent years though? The Gunners have been terrible on the road for years, and fans will hope that they have finally toughened up at the back with the introduction of David Luiz. We will find out here.

Prediction: Liverpool to Win – While Arsenal have likely turned a corner, they are no match for Liverpool at Anfield on their day.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Here’s our previews and betting tips for all the rest of the weekend’s action.

Aston Villa v Everton

  • Venue: Villa Park
  • Friday 23 August 20:00
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 9/4 D: 13/5 A: 23/20

About the Game:

Villa are without a win in the EPL after their return, and will face one of the league’s best defences here. Villa haven’t played badly, but it’s results that count.

Everton are solid at home and unbeaten this year. They should make it three games unbeaten against a newly promoted side, but Villa will not make things easy.

Prediction: Everton Draw no bet – Everton are unlikely to lose but could find it difficult to get all three points.

Norwich v Chelsea

Chelsea Form Guide DLLDW
  • Venue: Carrow Road
  • Saturday 24 August 12:30
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 10/3 D: 11/4 A: 3/4

About the Game:

Pukki scored the season’s first hattrick as Norwich got their first win in the EPL. The attacking style means they could beat anyone, and with Lampard’s Chelsea looking ropey, who’s to say they couldn’t win again here.

Frank Lampard is still looking for his first win as Chelsea boss after a second half turnaround from Leicester denied him last weekend. He faces a newly promoted side here, but Norwich are perhaps EPL in quality, so this will be anything but easy.

Prediction: Over 1.5 goals – We can see Norwich at least getting on the scoresheet, while their attacking approach means Chelsea will likely do the same.

Brighton v Southampton

  • Venue: AMEX
  • Saturday 24 August 15:00
  • Referee: Kevin Friend
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 11/8 D: 12/5 A: 15/8

About the Game:

Brighton have started the campaign well and are unbeaten. They face a tricky task here, but the new look Seagulls will be expected to win at home.

Southampton have lost their opening two matches but haven’t played bad football and should do well if they continue to play well. This is another tough test, but they could find some joy.

Prediction: Brighton or Draw double chance – We expect Brighton to remain unbeaten after this match.

Manchester United v Crystal Palace

  • Venue:
  • Saturday 24 August 15:00
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/11 D: 15/4 A: 15/2

About the Game:

United were held to a draw but are playing much better than many expected them to. The thumping of Chelsea got things off on the right foot and the Red Devils will be looking to get back to winning ways here.

Palace have had a poor start and could struggle this season. They are usually poor on the road, which doesn’t bode well for their chances here.

Prediction: Manchester United Win – United are playing great football and could score a few here.

Sheffield United v Leicester

  • Venue: Bramall Lane
  • Saturday 24 August 15:00
  • Referee: Andy Madley
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 11/5 D: 9/4 A: 5/4

About the Game:

Sheffield United got their first win this season last weekend. That will be a big confidence booster, and they will need to be at their best to beat the visitors here.

Two games and two draws isn’t great, but Leicester are looking solid. The wins will surely come soon, and against a newly promoted team, this could be the first three points of the season for the Foxes.

Prediction: Leicester Win – The Foxes have been strong and will make it show here.

Watford v West Ham

West Ham Form Guide DWDWW
  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Saturday 23 August 15:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/1 D: 5/2 A: 13/5

About the Game:

Watford have had a horrendous start to the season. Already beaten at home once, they must be wary of the attacking threat of West Ham.

The Hammers have just one point from two games, but they did start against Manchester City. Earning a point away from home last weekend, they will fancy their chances against a team with no points on the board.

Prediction: Both teams to score – Neither team have a clean sheet yet and will need the win.

Bournemouth v Manchester City
Bmouth Form Guide WDLDD

  • Venue: Vitality Arena
  • Sunday 25 August 14:00
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 14/1 D: 13/2 A: 1/6

About the Game:

Bournemouth have been less than convincing so far and they will have to seriously up their game here. The Cherries are a massive 14/1 to win here despite playing at home.

City have already lost their perfect record after dropping points against Spurs, but the Citizens played very well and dominated the game. A return to winning ways and goals is on the cards.

Prediction: Man City Win + Over 2.5 goals – We expect an emphatic City win, while Bournemouth could get on the scoresheet too.

Tottenham v Newcastle
Spurs Form Guide LDDDW

  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Sunday 25 August 16:30
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/5 D: 11/2 A: 13/1

About the Game:

Spurs will be over the moon with an away draw with Man City last week, even though manager Pochettino admitted they were outplayed. This is a much easier match though, with Spurs big favourites to win.

Newcastle are struggling just as many people predicted. A big defeat to newcomers Norwich last week is a worrying sign, and defeat is most likely on the cards again here.

Prediction: Spurs Win + Harry Kane anytime goalscorer – We expect a number of Spurs goals and Kane is sure to be among them.

Wolves v Burnley
Wolves Form Guide DDWLL

  • Venue: Molineux Stadium
  • Sunday 25 August 16:30
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 17/20 D: 12/5 A: 7/2

About the Game:

Wolves are yet to win but they are playing the same good football and caused Manchester United problems last week. The wins will surely follow, despite playing Europa League football.

Burnley have had a decent start to the season, with striker Ashley Barnes in particularly good form. This is another tough test after they just came up short against Arsenal last week.

Prediction: Wolves Win – Burnley will be tough, but we expect Wolves to get their first win here.
