Premier League Matchday 09 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2019/20

It’s week nine of the EPL, and after the international break, where England’s match with Bulgaria dominated the headlines for all the wrong reasons, its time to get back to football.

Although there aren’t many stand-out games this week, there are many teams that desperately need a win. We preview each and every game, starting with the best fixture of the weekend.

Match of the Day

The best game of the week is surely the Manchester United v Liverpool one. It’s an old classic and one that has produced many spectacular games over the years. The Sunday game will be a fun one for sure!

  • Venue: Old Trafford
  • Sunday 20 October 16:30
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/1 D: 3/1 A: 13/20

About the Game:

Have Man Utd ever been such large underdogs at home against Liverpool in Premier League history? It is unfathomable how far this teams has fallen, and we are sure they will fall further still in the coming months, with super Ole at the wheel.

Star keeper, David de Gea, was injured during the week and will miss out. Paul Pogba is also injured with an ankle problem, and United’s squad is looking weaker and weaker as the weeks go on. With only two wins on the season, they are in danger of their lowest ever finish in the PL and they need a complete overhaul.

Bet on Man Utd v Liverpool at Betway

Liverpool come into this game looking to equal Man City’s record of 18 consecutive victories in the top-flight. Even so United are unbeaten in their last five home games against Liverpool so it could be a tough task.

Mo Salah has played the Red Devils four times, and has failed to produce a goal or an assist in that time-span. This is the only team in the league that he has failed to do so. He’ll be looking to change that this weekend, and we wouldn’t put it past him! This game is Liverpool’s for the taking, and they are simply too good for United to withstand.

Prediction: Liverpool to win – This could be a difficult game for the reds, but Mo Salah will finally score against United.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Here’s our previews and betting tips for all the rest of the weekend’s action.

Everton v West Ham

  • Venue: Goodison Park
  • Saturday 19 October 12:30
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 10/11 D: 11/4 A: 11/4

About the Game:

Everton have lost four league games in a row and find themselves in the relegation zone. No one predicted this at the start of the season, and with the players they have they should nowhere near here. Marco Silva will be without Seamus Coleman after his sending off in the last match, and he could soon find himself without a team if things carry on this way.

West Ham are unbeaten away this season, with one win and three draws. In their past three games against the Toffees they have won twice, however, with long-term injuries to Michail Antonio, Lukasz Fabianski, and Winston Reid, this is by no means an easy fixture for the Hammers.

Prediction: Draw – West Ham’s unbeaten run away from home continues in a boring draw. This could even finish 0-0.

Aston Villa v Brighton

  • Venue: Villa Park
  • Saturday 19 October 15:00
  • Referee: David Coote
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 7/5 D: 23/10 A: 2/1

About the Game:

Both teams are coming off impressive victories, and only one point separates them in the table. Aston Villa have a couple of injury concerns with Jota ruled out, however Jonathan Kodjia is back in the squad. They’ll be looking to Wesley who has been involved in five goals in his last six games.

Brighton also have some good news with Leandro Trossard, Solly March, and Shane Duffy all back in action, with only Jose Izquierdo and Bernardo the only absences. It will an interesting game, but one which both teams can pull themselves away from a relegation scrap.

Prediction: Aston Villa to win – Home advantage is the thing that tips this in the favours of the Villans.

Bournemouth v Norwich City

  • Venue: Vitality Stadium
  • Saturday 19 October 15:00
  • Referee: Lee Mason
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/11 D: 10/3 A:16/5

About the Game:

Bournemouth come into this game in decent form with seven points from their past four league games. They’ll be looking to Callum Wilson who has scored five goals in eight games. They will be hoping to keep their first clean sheet of the season, but it remains unlikely with the opposition’s firepower.

Norwich’s away form this season is porous, with four defeats in as many games. They will be looking to Pukki to fire them to victory, as they are yet to keep a clean sheet. It will be a tough task that will ultimately end in defeat.

Prediction: Bournemouth to Win and BTTS – Both team can score, and Bournemouth will score more to win.

Chelsea v Newcastle United

  • Venue: Stamford Bridge
  • Saturday 19 October 15:00
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 3/10 D: 9/2 A: 9/1

About the Game:

Chelsea have won four games in a row in all competitions and are beginning to find their feet under Frank Lampard. Although they still aren;t top-four material, they play an exciting brand of football, and and have won over many supporters. The Blues have won their last six home games against Newcastle, and are likely to extend that streak.

Newcastle come into this game having only scored five goals in the league all season. They will need this to change, as Chelsea have bagged 18, and will ultimately score in this game. The Magpies will be looking to Matty Longstaff for more inspiration following his inspirational debut in their previous game.

Prediction: Chelsea to win – The Blues have too much firepower for the Magpies to contain.

Leicester v Burnley

  • Venue: King Power Stadium
  • Saturday 19 October 15:00
  • Referee: Jon Moss
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 11/20 D: 3/1 A: 5/1

About the Game:

Leicester are a force to be reckoned with when playing at home. They have won three and drawn one at the King Power Stadium this season, with that draw coming on the first day of the season. They are boosted by further good news that James Maddison will be available following his illness that caused him to withdraw from the England squad.

Burnley will be without Johan Berg Gudmundsson and Danny Drinkwater, whilst Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes will face late fitness tests. The Clarets are unbeaten in their past four PL games, however this is a stern test and they are still without an away win this season, so it would be surprising if that changes this weekend.

Prediction: Leicester to win – Under Brendan Rodgers, the foxes have flourished at home and this will continue on Saturday.

Tottenham v Watford

  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Saturday 19 October 15:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 2/5 D: 15/4 A: 13/2

About the Game:

The international break couldn’t have come at a better time for Spurs who are truly struggling for from. After being pummeled by Bayer, they were then embarrassed at the hands of Brighton. They need to bounce back in the baddest way. A few more losses and Pochettino could be out of the door.

Watford remain rooted to the foot of the table, and remain winless with only four goals scored all season. They are staring relegation in the face and need a miraculous turnaround. This is a fixture Spurs need badly and are favourites to win.

Prediction: Spurs to win – We aren’t confident in them as a team, but Watford are woeful so there is that.

Wolves v Southampton
Wolves Form Guide WDLDD

  • Venue: Molineux Stadium
  • Saturday 19 October 15:00
  • Referee: Peter Bankes
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 5/6 D: 5/2 A: 7/2

About the Game:

A recent revival of form has seen Wolves surge up the table. Their 2-0 win away at Man City will go down for the ages, and was truly inspiring performance. Wolves haven’t lost to Southampton in their last three home games, however they only have one victory in four attempts at home this season.

Southampton come into this one having lost three PL games on the bounce, nevertheless most of their points have come on the road this season, with both of their wins coming away from home. This is a potential for an upset and is the hardest game to call of the week.

Prediction: Southampton to win – This could easily go Wolves’ way, but they have been up and down all season.

Crystal Palace v Man City
Crystal Palace Form Guide LDDDW
Man City Form Guide WWLWD
  • Venue: Selhurst Park
  • Sunday 19 October 17:30
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 10/1 D: 6/1 A: 2/9

About the Game:

Crystal Palace are undefeated at home this season and have played some pretty resolute football under Roy Hodgson. What is remarkable is that they are only two points behind City and are 6th in the table. Even so, they are only averaging one goal a game, and if they fall behind early that will be the end of it.

Man City need to bounce back from defeat against Wolves, and most likely will do so. Sergio Aguero has never scored away at Selhurst Park in six attempts. It seems like a tough game on the surface, yet it is also the type of game in which City will come out all guns blazing for an easy victory.

Prediction: Man City to win – A difficult game for the City, yet this is one they need to pull out of the bag.

Sheffield United v Arsenal
Sheffield United Form Guide DDWLL
Arsenal Form Guide LWDLL
  • Venue: Bramall Lane
  • Monday 21 October 20:00
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 14/5 D: 14/5 A: 10/11

About the Game:

Sheffield United have started the season in decent form, yet with one win and three losses at home they will want to overturn this trend quickly. Arsenal have never won at Bramall Lane in the PL and they’ll hope that continues on Monday night. Mike Dean is in charge of the contest so watch out for some theatrics from him.

Arsenal come into this game on a five match unbeaten run and a eight match one overall. Nevertheless, they have only one away victory to their name this season, and seem as though they are a team without a clear identity. Yes, they are third in the league and have lost just once all season, yet some of their performances have left a lot to be desired. Nevertheless, with Alexandre Lacazete back in contention they could bring some additional firepower.

Prediction: Draw – It seems like a game where Arsenal get stunted and don’t know how to respond.
