Premier League Matchday 28 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2019/20

Week 28 is here, with only eight games to preview as the League Cup final is taking place on Sunday, so two matches have been postponed for later on.

Liverpool just need four more wins to seal the title, but it could be even sooner if City drop some points. The weekend starts off on Friday night and there are some exciting match ups to look forward to.

Match of the Day

The match of the week takes place on Sunday, when United travel to Everton. Both teams are in decent form and it promises to be a lively encounter.

Everton v Man United

  • Venue: Goodison Park
  • Sunday 1 March 14:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 6/4 D:23/10 A: 15/8

About the Game:

Everton lost their last game, and it was the first time in six matches they had succumbed to defeat. They will be expecting better results when they face Utd at home, having won four of their last seven matches at Goodison Park against the Red Devils.

They are spearheaded by the duo of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. The former has scored 12 PL goals so far this season, and he is forming a case to be part of the England Euro 2020 squad. Everton’s defence has been a weak spot this season, along with Jordan Pickford, who will be hoping for a blunder-less game.

Bet on Everton v United at Betway

Man Utd are now is serious contention for a Champions League place. They are only three points off fourth and need to keep the pressure on with a victory in this one. The will still be without top-scorer Marcus Rashford, however.

United have won two in a row, and haven’t won three on the trot since January 2018. It would be a signal that things are changing if they can start to put a bit of consistency together. They will be looking at new signing Bruno Fernandes to lead the way, and he has looked good so far in the games he has played.

Prediction: Everton to win – The home field advantage will swing this the way of the Toffees.

Rest of the Premier League Games

Coming up are our previews and betting tips for all the rest of the weekend’s action.

Norwich v Leicester

  • Venue: Carrow Road
  • Friday 28 February 20:00
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 7/2 D: 3/1 A: 7/10

About the Game:

Norwich remain at the bottom of the table and haven’t won in four games in the league. Barring a miracle it will be a matter of time before they are relegated. Even so, a victory in this one would spark hope and give the teams above them something to think about. Stranger things have happened.

Leicester have had a pretty tough run of fixtures and have seen second place slip away from them. Their Champions League place seems to still be secure, but they will still need to pick up a few more wins before the season is out. A trip to Norwich seems like the perfect remedy, having not lost to them in the PL since 1994.

Prediction: Leicester to win – As much as we’d like a Norwich revival, Leicester should be winning this one.

Brighton v Crystal Palace

  • Venue: American Express Community Stadium
  • Saturday 29 February 12:30
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 21/20 D: 11/5 A: 14/5

About the Game:

These rivals square up in a game that the Seagulls are desperate to win. Atlhough they keep picking up points, Brighton just keep drawing and haven’t won in eight games in all competitions. Dale Stephens is back in contention after a hamstring injury and could provide a welcome boost to the struggling side.

Palace don’t like travelling to the seaside. In the last 18 trips to Brighton they have lost 11, drawn five and won just two. Palace’s slide in form was arrested by a good victory away at Newcastle, but we can see them now resting on their laurels and slipping up in this one. Either way, it will be a boring game.

Prediction: Brighton to win – A draw may be more likely, but we fancy the Seagulls to overcome the Eagles.

Bournemouth v Chelsea

  • Venue: Vitality Stadium
  • Saturday 29 February 15:00
  • Vitality Stadium
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 15/4 D: 11/4 A: 3/4

About the Game:

Bournemouth are once again hovering above the relegation zone with just two points separating them. It is only due to the poor performance of the teams around them that they don’t find themselves staring into the abyss. They hope to have Nathan Ake and Jefferson Lerma fit for the game, and they need all hands on deck in their battle for survival.

Chelsea are looking pretty abject in recent weeks. They did defeat Spurs at home, but were thoroughly outclassed by Bayer in midweek. They are now only three points above United and Champions League football may not be at the Bridge next season if they carry on the way they are playing.

Prediction: Chelsea to win – It is hard to trust either team, but Chelsea just about take it due to how poor the Cherries are.

Newcastle v Burnley

  • Venue: St. James’ Park
  • Saturday 29 February 15:00
  • Referee: Andy Madley
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/5 D: 21/10 A:19/10

About the Game:

It’s a game that no one has marked on their calendar. If the Premier League wanted to advertise how great their brand of football is, this would not be the game to show. The Magpies haven’t won in four games, and their style of football means once they get behind, they stay behind.

Burnley’s surge up the table is continuing and they are now in the top 10. They are only four points off fifth, in a tightly packed bunch. Two wins on the bounce has helped their cause and they have looked impressive in recent weeks. Matej Vydra, a forgotten man just weeks ago has scored two on the trot, and could carry on his streak in this one.

Prediction: Burnley to win – All the form suggests a Clarets win and Newcastle don’t inspire confidence.

West Ham United v Southampton
West Ham Form Guide WLWWD
Southampton Form Guide WDWLD
  • Venue: London Stadium
  • Saturday 29 February 15:00
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 13/8 D: 5/2 A: 8/5

About the Game:

West Ham have never needed to win a game more in their Premier League life. They haven’t won in eight games and sit in the relegation zone. Their run of fixtures has and will be brutal, so this in one of the games where they can realistically claim three points. If they don’t win this one, they are going down.

Southampton are now relatively comfortable in mid-table and don’t really have much to play for the rest of the way. They don’t like playing the Hammers and haven’t won in their last four meetings. Nathan Redmond will be out for a month with a muscle injury, but they should welcome back Kyle Walker-Peters this weekend.

Prediction: West Ham to win – It’s last chance saloon for the Hammers and they need to make it pay.

Watford v Liverpool
Watford Form Guide LLLLL

  • Venue: Vicarage Road
  • Saturday 29 February 17:30
  • Referee: Martin Atkinson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 13/2 D: 4/1 A: 2/5

About the Game:

Watford are still rooted in the bottom three and need points quickly. They haven’t won in six PL games and it is starting to feel desperate for the Hornets. They haven’t won in eight games against their opponents and it won’t get any easier in this game.

The Reds go marching on. Another week, another victory and now they are tantilisingly close to the title. Can they go the whole season unbeaten? It would be a remarkable feat. They will surely win this one and keep the dream alive for another week. They are a well-oiled machine and nothing can get in their way at the moment.

Prediction: Liverpool to win – As we say every week, until proven otherwise, there is no team capable of beating this side.

Tottenham v Wolves
Spurs Form Guide WDLDD
Wolves Form Guide WWWLW
  • Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
  • Sunday 1 March 14:00
  • Referee: Stuart Attwell
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 7/5 D: 11/5 A: 21/10

About the Game:

Tottenham’s charge up the table was halted by Chelsea last week as they look to claim a Champions League place for next season. They also lost to Leipzig midweek and are now looking to get back on track. They have only lost once in the past seven league games against Wolves so that is something they can hold on to.

Wolves have just one defeat in their last five, and that came against Liverpool. They are in decent form and would go above Spurs with victory in this one. They will be spurred on by Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota who have a wonderful strike partnership with 17 goals between them this season.

Prediction: Wolves to win – Spurs will flail and gift Wolves a rare victory against them.
