Premier League Matchday 31 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2018/19

There have been some fantastic results for English teams in the European competitions this week. Manchester demolished a weak Schalke 04 side, and tonight, Liverpool take on the Bavarian giants in a fascinating second leg match at the Allianz Arena.

The Premier League fixture card is particularly light this weekend. With the FA Cup taking many of the Premier League clubs away from their regular league duties this weekend. The remaining 10 clubs will all be playing full of passion and fight, knowing a game in hand will be handed to their rivals and they will be looking to pile the pressure on the absentees.

Match of the Day

Our top match of the day is the battle that will take place on the grass next to the river Thames this Sunday. Fulham take on Liverpool, in a game that looks on the surface to be pretty one-sided. The Cottagers are certainly relegated at this point and will be playing without expectation and pressure against the Premier League title contender.

  • Venue: Craven Cottage
  • Sunday 17 March 14:15
  • Referee: Jonathan Moss
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 9/1 D:5/1 A: 1/4

About the Game:

Fulham have put in decent performances throughout this season, but the defense issues having been tremendously crippling for any survival efforts they have mounted. Despite this, they lost by narrow margins to top teams this season, notably conceding a late goal at home to Tottenham, narrowly missing out on a draw with Chelsea with a dissallowed late goal, and various other matches were a point or three would have been deserved.

The last time the two sides met at Anfield in November, Liverpool were victorious 2-0. But there were long periods of play throughout the match were Fulham dominated possession and had genuine clear cut chances to score and take the lead. With the mid-week game at Bayern taking the focus of Klopp, it may be a tired and weary Liverpool squad that make the trip to London to play a re-structured Fulham team under the consummate leadership of Scott Parker.

Bet on the Fulham v Liverpool game this Sunday

Liverpool are 56 points ahead of Fulham in the table, which on the face suggests an enormous gulf in class. But this is the Premier League. Klopp’s side have already began to show signs of faltering, the last 5 away Premier League outings have only produced 1 victory, going goalless in the previous 2.

It is hard to imagine Liverpool not finding the net against the worst Premier League defense this season, but there are warning signs written all over this one for Liverpool. The game falls in a hectic week for Klopp and one can imagine they may be feeling the weight of Man City above them and play a slightly chaotic style of attacking football against Fulham, try and get the game finished early, and play right into the home teams counter-attacking strategy.

Prediction: Fulham to win & Both teams to score

Rest of the Premier League Games

There are plenty of fixtures to keep any football fan happy over the weekend. The best of the rest is without doubt the Merseyside derby which rounds off the action on Sunday afternoon.

Bournemouth v Newcastle

  • Venue: Selhurst Park
  • Saturday 16 March 15:00
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/1 D: 23/10 A: 11/4

About the Game:

After a fantastic run of home form, Newcastle travel down South to take on AFC Bournemouth. The away form of Newcastle will play into tyhe hands of Bournemouth who have shown in the past how rampant they can be when they get the home crowd behind them. The 4-0 victory over Chelsea in January is still fresh in the minds of Cherries fans.

Newcastle have recovered well since a disappointing run of games at the start of the season, and now they sit comfortably above the drop zone. Looking to build on their position is the task Rafa Benitez.

Prediction: Bournemouth win – the away form of Newcastle doesn’t suggest they will find much success in this game.

Burnley v Leicester

  • Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
  • Saturday 16 March 15:00
  • Referee: Graham Scott
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 19/10 D: 14/5 A: 11/2

About the Game:

Burnley sit precariously above the drop zone, and with Cardiff hot on their heels, survival is the one and only priority for Burnley. They will be desperate not to lose this game. However, they are weak at the back, and have failed to keep a clean sheet in the previous 7 matches in the Premier League.

Leicester City also have a disastrous defensive record, failing to keep a clean sheet in the previous 10 matches in the Premier League. But despite this, they have earned enough points to guarantee safety, and city comfortably mid-table. Goals looks like the only logical option in this match.

Prediction: Both teams to score – the goal scoring records of both these teams heavily suggests a high scoreline.

West Ham United v Huddersfield

  • Venue:
  • Saturday 16 March 15:00
  • Referee: David Coote
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/15 D: 14/5 A: 11/2

About the Game:

West Ham United have been revitalised by the emergence of a young beast in the center of midfield. Declan Rice, a super talent of 20 years, demonstrates composure and defensive awareness well beyond his short experience. With a squad full of talent and attacking threat, West Ham will be confident they can continue their impeccable home form against an already relegated Huddersfield.

Huddersfield already know they’re down, 16-points adrift with 8 games to go, they haven’t scored a goal away from home in their previous 5 outings. Need we say any more?

Prediction: West Ham -1.5 asian handicap – Expect a victory of 2 clear goals or more from West Ham.
