Premier League Matchday 37 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2018/19

After European fixtures throughout the week the Premier League is back with a bang this weekend.

Everton and Burnley kick things off on Friday night, while our game of the week, Manchester City against Leicester, takes place on Monday evening.

Match of the Day

City will have the advantage of knowing the Liverpool result prior to kickoff, but either way, they will go out to attack and win.

  • Venue: The Etihad
  • Monday 06 May 20:00
  • Referee: Mike Dean
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/8 D: 15/2 A: 16/1

About the Game:

Fernandinho is a doubt for the match, but Pep has no new injury concerns. John Stones has also made the bench again in recent weeks, and may replace Vincent Kompany.

City are flying, having won their last twelve league matches. They didn’t have it so easy against Burnley last week though, with a single goal separating the two teams. It may be equally tough here, although City have home advantage. Leicester are a different team under Rogers, and have a good record against the top teams. Despite this, if anything, it will likely be the pressure of the occasion, rather than the match, that gets to City. Win this, and they have just one more match to win to retain their title. It will likely go down to the wire, but City have the title within their grasp.

Bet on the match between Manchester City and Leicester

Jamie Vardy continued his great scoring run with two late goals against Arsenal last weekend. He has a fantastic scoring record against top teams, and if he keeps that up here, it could have a dramatic effect on the title race.

Leicester also have no new injury concerns and are playing well in the run to the end of the season. Brendan Rogers has done a great job since taking over, and with some shrewd transfer business in the summer, the Foxes could once again be a surprise package next season. Holding on to Youri Tielemans will be key to their success, and he will be the key man here. The midfielder has been fantastic since joining, and already has three goals and five assists. His link up play with Vardy will be the main threat for City.

Prediction: Manchester City Win + Over 2.5 goals – Leicester are a fearless team and they won’t lie down. Nerves could effect City and we expect goals.

Rest of the Premier League Games

There’s a full round up of fixtures, starting with a Friday evening match, and going all the way through to Monday night.

Everton v Burnley

  • Venue: Goodison Park
  • Friday 03 May 20:00
  • Referee: Chris Kavanagh
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/13 D: 3/1 A: 21/4

About the Game:

Everton are finishing very strongly and could still get seventh spot, and a potential place in the Europa League next season. Burnley are the opponents here, who have little to play for, having reached the magical 40 points.

After a fine run, Burnley haven’t won in their last two matches, although they did play Manchester City in their last game. Playing away from home, this is a tough match to take points from.

Prediction: Everton Win – Apart from the shock defeat to Fulham, Everton have played very well in recent weeks.

Bournemouth v Tottenham

  • Venue: Vitality Stadium
  • Saturday 04 May 12:30
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 14/5 D: 13/5 A: 10/11

About the Game:

Bournemouth’s inconsistent form means they’ve won just one of the last five, although they did manage five goals in that match. They host a weary Spurs team, who will have one eye on their vital UCL second leg fixture next week.

Spurs are looking fatigued, as the matches and injuries add up. They are still well in their UCL tie, and it will be interesting to see how they set up here. Their league form has been poor, but they have been saved by poor results from the teams around them competing for the top four. Win this and a top four place is secured.

Prediction: Both teams to score – Bournemouth are stronger at home, but Tottenham should at least find the net once.

West Ham v Southampton

  • Venue: The London Stadium
  • Saturday 04 May 15:00
  • Referee: Stuart Atwell
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 13/10 D: 5/2 A: 15/8

About the Game:

West Ham got their first win in a long time after a great performance against Spurs last weekend. After a really poor showing in recent weeks, perhaps the Hammers can end strongly and climb a few places in the league.

Southampton are safe, and their new manager Hasenhuttl should be commended for a job well done. He is not the sort to put his feet up though, so expect the Saints to make it difficult for the home team.

Prediction: Over 2.5 goals – Two teams that will want to win but have little riding on this match means we could be treated to goals.

Wolves v Fulham

  • Venue: Molineux
  • Saturday 04 May 15:00
  • Referee: Jonathan Moss
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/2 D: 3/1 A: 6/1

About the Game:

Wolves are currently leading the race for seventh and could secure it with victory here. It would be a massive and deserved achievement for their hardwork this season.

Fulham fans must be thinking “what if”, after their team has now gone on a run of three consecutive wins. If only the Cottagers could have managed this earlier in the season. Fulham are playing great and defending much better, so don’t count them out here.

Prediction: Wolves Win – Wolves will bring Fulham’s great run to an end

Cardiff v Crystal Palace
Cardiff Form Guide WLWWD
Crystal Palace Form Guide WDWLD
  • Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
  • Saturday 04 May 17:30
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 6/4 D: 12/5 A: 17/10

About the Game:

It’s last chance saloon for Cardiff now and the omens don’t look good. Crystal Palace have relegated three teams in the last three seasons, and can do it again here. Only a win will keep Cardiff’s hopes of remaining in the league alive, and even then, they have to hope Brighton don’t beat Arsenal. We could be waving farewell to Neil Warnock’s men here.

Crystal Palace have ended the hopes of many teams and could do so here again. With Cardiff’s attack blunted, it would be no surprise if Palace banish Cardiff to the Championship here.

Prediction: Crystal Palace Draw no bet – Cardiff are in poor form and despite the nature of this match, we don’t see Palace losing.

Newcastle v Liverpool
Newcastle Form Guide LLLLL
Liverpool Form Guide DWDWW
  • Venue: St James’ Park
  • Saturday 04 May 17:30
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/1 D: 9/2 A: 3/10

About the Game:

Benitez could come back to haunt his old club here if Newcastle can prevent Liverpool winning. Newcastle are unbeaten in their last three and are more than capable of an upset. Ayoze Perez will be a big loss if he isn’t passed fit in time; The forward has five goals in his last three matches, including a hat-trick against Southampton.

Liverpool will be deflated after somehow losing 3-0 to Barcelona on Wednesday, despite arguably being the better team. Their UCL dreams are all but over after that result, while defeat here would surely mean their title hopes are over too. The pressure is really on, so it will be fascinating to see how the players manage it.

Prediction: Liverpool Win + Under 2.5 goals – We think it will be very tight, but Liverpool will get the job done.

Chelsea v Watford
Chelsea Form Guide WDLDD
Watford Form Guide WWWLW
  • Venue: Stamford Bridge
  • Sunday 05 May 14:00
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 2/5 D: 15/4 A: 6/1

About the Game:

Despite not winning in their last three matches Chelsea somehow remain inside the top four. Their destiny is in their hands and they could yet grab a UCL place, despite it looking unlikely at many points in the season. This is a tough match though, which could once again end in disaster for the Blues.

Watford have dropped a few places after one point from their last six, but the season as a whole has been a strong one. They are definitely a match for Chelsea, and could still have a big effect on the makeup of the top four, depending on the result here.

Prediction: Both teams to score – Chelsea need to win but have been poor defensively in recent weeks.

Huddersfield v Manchester United
Huddersfield Form Guide LDDDW
Man U Form Guide WWLWD
  • Venue: John Smith’s Stadium
  • Sunday 05 May 14:00
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 8/1 D: 9/2 A: 3/10

About the Game:

Huddersfield were unsurprisingly swept aside by Liverpool last weekend and they face another top six opponent here. They have home advantage, but fans will be holding out little hope that the team will even maintain some dignity.

United’s terrible run of one win in their last five league games means their chances of a top four finish are out of their hands. They play two of the bottom three in their remaining two games, so they should earn two wins, but that may not be enough. Marcus Rashford has been passed fit and will be a huge boost.

Prediction: Manchester United Win + Under 3.5 goals – Huddersfield should be easily beaten, but United are hardly scoring goals for fun.

Arsenal v Brighton
Arsenal Form Guide DDWLL
Brighton Form Guide LWDLL
  • Venue: The Emirates
  • Sunday 05 April 16:30
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/11 D: 7/2 A: 17/2

About the Game:

Arsenal seem to be doing everything in their power not to finish in the top four. Three consecutive defeats mean that the Gunner’s fate is not in their own hands. this is a favourable fixture and they must win to give themselves any hope, but they then must travel to Burnley for a very tricky match on the last day of the season.

Brighton are also in poor form and could still be relegated. Should Cardiff lose this then Brighton will be safe, but the Seagulls cannot take any chances.

Prediction: Arsenal Win – Despite their terrible form, Arsenal should be lifted here through home advantage.
