Premier League Matchday 30 Preview – Prediction + Tips 2018/19

After European fixtures through the week, the EPL returns on Saturday with another round of mouth watering fixtures.

Liverpool must return to winning ways to keep up with high-flying Manchester City, who are still in the running for four trophies.

Match of the Day

Our match of the day is a vital one for both teams. Arsenal have found themselves somehow behind Manchester United, whose relentless comeback under Solksjaer has seen them back into third fourth place. This match could go a long way in dictating the makeup of the top four.

About the Game:

Arsenal missed the chance to beat Tottenham via a penalty in the London derby last week. This game is equally, if not more important, with today’s visitors currently one point ahead of them in the last Champions League spot.

Andre Lacazette is in fine form with three goals in his last four matches. Strike partner Aubameyang has been the more prolific of the two over the course of the season, but he is a little out of sorts lately. Unai Emery has chosen not to pair the two recently, especially in matches against stronger teams, so it will be interesting to see how he sets up and who is favoured here. Lucas Torreira lost his appeal to have his red card overturned, so he will miss this and two more games, but otherwise, the Gunners injury and suspension list is light, especially compared to Uniteds. Arsenal were unable to gain ground on Spurs, another team immediately above them, last week. They cannot miss another opportunity.

Bet on the Arsenal vs Manchester United game this weekend

As if Manchester United’s domestic form wasn’t enough, the Red Devils come into this one having done the impossible, and knocked-out PSG in Paris from the Champions League. United overcame a 2-0 deficit to win in Paris 3-1, thanks to a late Marcus Rashford penalty.

That win shows that confidence is at an all-time high in Manchester, with Solksjaer inspiring miracles. United played with almost all of their first-team players out injured, along with Paul Pogba, who was suspended. The injury list remains massive, and that limits Solksjaer a little here. The likes of Rashford and Lukaku will surely play due to this, but could perhaps do with a rest. Pogba will certainly return to the team. United seem like they can win any match on will alone, but they will have to be more organised defensively to deal with the significant Gunners attacking threat.

Prediction: Both teams to score – This one should be a fiery occasion between two attacking teams high on confidence and with everything to play for.

Rest of the Premier League Games

There are plenty of fixtures to keep any football fan happy over the weekend. The best of the rest is without doubt the Merseyside derby which rounds off the action on Sunday afternoon.

Crystal Palace v Brighton

  • Venue: Selhurst Park
  • Saturday 09 March 12:30
  • Referee: Craig Pawson
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/5 D: 5/2 A: 7/2

About the Game:

Palace were fantastic last weekend and picked up a well deserved rare away win.  That’s three wins in five for the Eagles, who are always a danger but mightily inconsistent. If they can put together a few more wins, then they could be knocking on the door of the top ten.

Brighton finally ended a miserable run of results with a win against Huddersfield. They only just managed to beat the bottom placed team though, so perhaps it’s not wise to speak of a turnaround just yet.

Prediction: Crystal Palace Win – Palace are in good form, with Bathshuayi proving a great strike partner for Wildred Zaha.

Cardiff v West Ham

  • Venue: Cardiff City Stadium
  • Saturday 09 March 15:00
  • Referee: Graham Scott
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 11/5 D: 12/5 A: 6/5

About the Game:

Cardiff fell to their third defeat in succession against Wolves last weekend. Their fighting spirit will need to return, but this week has brought the awful news that Bamba will be out for the rest of the season. The captain has been a leader in defence and has also brought important goals to the team, so he will be a huge loss.

That is good news for West Ham though, who are finding their scoring boots and playing some good football. Manuel Lanzini is getting sharper with each game, while Arnautovic is once again available. Felipe Anderson has been quiet of late, but perhaps the Brazilian will refind the net here.

Prediction: West Ham Win – The Hammers are playing great football at the moment and have ended defensive organisation to their attacking edge.

Huddersfield v Bournemouth

  • Venue: John Smith’s Stadium
  • Saturday 09 March 15:00
  • Referee: Anthony Taylor
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 23/10 D: 11/5 A: 5/4

About the Game:

Huddersfield only narrowly missed out on a point last weekend, but in truth, draws simply will not do, so perilous is their situation. The visitors are completely out of sorts, but do possess a massive counter attacking threat, which the Terriers will have to be very weary of as they go for the win.

Bournemouth’s poor run continues, but they have some great fixtures starting now until the end of the season. Ending their freefall down the table is task number one, and Eddie Howe should be able to welcome back top scorer Callumn Wilson very soon.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals – Huddersfield can’t lose, so will keep it tight while they go for the win, while Bournemouth’s terrible away form does not suggest they will score many.

Leicester v Fulham

  • Saturday 09 March 15:00
  • Referee: David Coote
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 4/7 D: 3/1 A: 19/4

About the Game:

Brendan Rogers couldn’t win his first game in charge of Leicester, as the Foxes lost out in a hard-fought match against Watford last weekend. Jamie Vardy had to be substituted in that match and the striker is a doubt for this one, although current reports are positive and suggest he has a chance of making the starting lineup.

Fulham put up a great fight against Chelsea and were in truth unlucky to lose their last match. They will need to show that sort of desire in every single match and hope that the results follow. Time is not on the Cottager’s side.

Prediction: Leicester Win – Leicester have improved of late and should be able to capitalise on the visitor’s woeful away form.

Newcastle v Everton

  • Venue: St Jame’s Park
  • Saturday 09 March 15:00
  • Referee: Lee Mason
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 17/10 D: 11/5 A: 13/8

About the Game:

Newcastle were no match for West Ham last weekend, despite being on a pretty good run of form. They’re back at St James’ here and will fancy their chances against a very inconsistent opponent.

Everton fans celebrated last weekend’s draw against neighbours Liverpool as if it was a win, knowing it has damaged the Red’s title chances. Everton have been much better in the last two games and if they play like that again then Newcastle will have a job on their hands. Knowing Everton over the last twelve weeks or so, that is a big if.

Prediction: Both teams to score – This could be an interesting and attacking encounter between two teams that need points, but for different reasons.

Southampton v Spurs

  • Venue: St Marys’
  • Saturday 09 March 15:00
  • Referee: Kevin Friend
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 16/5 D: 11/4 A: 4/5

About the Game:

The Saints continue to fight and are as it stands out of the relegation zone. There is a three points gap between them and the team above them though, so the situation remains perilous. This is a very tough match, but Spurs did play in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Tottenham got the job done in the UCL on Tuesday despite opponents Dortmund dominating the game. Harry Kane was clinical with his one chance and has been sharp since returning from injury. He will surely get at least one big chance here, and you wouldn’t bet against the England man scoring.

Prediction: Over 2.5 goals – Southampton are better at home but they continue to leak goals.

Manchester City v Watford
Man C Form Guide WDLDD

  • Venue: The Etihad
  • Saturday 09 March 17:30
  • Referee: Paul Tierney
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/7 D: 13/2 A: 16/1

About the Game:

City are the league leaders once again as Liverpool stumble in recent weeks. Despite battling on four fronts, City are making no mistakes. Exertions in these four competitions may soon catch up with them, and many players are surely deserving of a rest. That said, it’s unlikely to happen in this match, where the Citizens are huge favourites.

Watford earned an important three points against table rivals Leicester last weekend, as they look to make seventh place their own. However, they did concede five goals against Liverpool two weeks back, and are once again playing away to one of the league’s top two teams. Surely just keep things tight is Watford’s biggest goal.

Prediction: Under 3.5 goals – City will surely win, but avoiding another embarrassing rout will be Gracia’s main goal here.

Liverpool v Burnley

  • Venue: Anfield
  • Sunday 10 March 12:00
  • Referee: Andre Marriner
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/7 D: 13/2 A: 16/1

About the Game:

Liverpool are slipping away from Manchester City as they seem to be losing their edge. The Reds form is poor in 2019 and, although they are avoiding defeat, they are drawing too many games. Mo Salah’s form has been symbolic of this, with the Egyptian now without a goal in four.

Burnley’s incredible run seems to have come to and end with back-to-back defeats. Sean Dyche will be well aware of the task at home here, with Liverpool almost invincible at Anfield. He will likely adopt a very defensive approach.

Prediction: Liverpool Win + Over 2.5 goals – This will go one of two ways; either the Reds bounce right back or they don’t. We think they will, and that means another high-scoring win.

Chelsea v Wolves
Chelsea Form Guide DDWLL
Wolves Form Guide LWDLL
  • Venue: Stamford Bridge
  • Sunday 10 March 14:05
  • Referee: Michael Oliver
  • Quick Glance Odds H: 1/2 D: 3/1 A: 6/1

About the Game:

Chelsea were somewhat fortunate to beat struggling Fulham last weekend. Nevertheless, they got the job done, and are just about keeping pace with Arsenal and Manchester United. They have another very tricky fixture here, which will be a good litmus test of where the team are at amid all the drama.

Santos fielded a drastically changed lineup as a message to his players after they lost to Huddersfield the week before their last match. It worked, and Wolves returned to winning ways with a solid performance. Jota and Jiminez did the damage up front and their partnership is proving fruitful. Those two will one again be the danger men for the home team.

Prediction: Both teams to score – This one could be a great game. Both teams are capable of winning, so we see joy for both teams in terms of goals.
