BetVictor Become Premier League Club Fulham’s New Sponsor

BetVictor Become the new sponsors of Premier League newcomers Fulham. The deal runs until the 2021-22 season, and the kits of both Fulham’s men’s and women’s teams will wear the operators branding.

Fulham wore their new shirts bearing the name of new sponsor BetVictor at the weekend after the club secured a two-year agreement with the bookmaker. As part of the deal, players for the club will wear BetVictor branded shirts and the operator will place adverts around Craven Cottage, as seen in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal. BetVictor will also benefit from an increased presence on the club’s digital platforms.

The London club has replaced one gambling company with another as their previous sponsor was Filipino gambling firm Dafabet. That deal was signed in 2018 and expired this summer. BetVictor CEO, Andreas Meinrad said the company was excited to become Fulham’s main sponsor and stated that he believed both BetVictor and Fulham would enjoy successful seasons. He added that he understood how much football meant to his customers, how the Premier League delivers on compelling drama and added that his company shared that “enthusiasm for the beautiful game”. Alistair Mackintosh, Fulham CEO, said: “We welcome BetVictor on board as our Main Team Partner and look forward to working with them this season. He added:

The Co-vid 19 outbreak has led to the banning of spectators at Craven Cottage, hitting club finances hard. So news of this new deal will be welcomed by those involved in the club. It will, however, be viewed so positively by a growing number of campaigners who want sports clubs and organisations to break away from companies offering gambling products. The House of Lords Select Committee on the Social and Economic Impact of the gambling industry has called for the end of gambling sponsorship in sport in their review that was published in July this year.

In the report, the Committee made 66 recommendations in their 194-page report. Along with a total ban on gambling companies sponsoring clubs, the Lords report also suggested a ban on stadia advertisements and an end to operators streaming games on their platforms.

A new Gambling Act is due to be discussed in the House of Commons in the near future; the Premier Minister made a promise of reforms during his successful campaign in the last general election. He called the current regulations “an analogue law in a digital age” and promised to change gambling advertisement rules. It is expected that shirt sponsorship in all sports will be contained in any amendments.

Details of the proposed changes to the Gambling Act had been expected by Autumn; next year now seems more likely with the coronavirus pandemic. The UK’s involvement in trade talks with the EU to prevent a no-deal Brexit are also likely to take priority.
