Live Betting & Streaming at Paddy Power Put to the Test

Paddy Power has made a name for itself through its unconventional approach to sports betting. Its in-play offering does things more by the book however. Sticking with the company’s symbolic green and white colour scheme, Paddy Power live betting looks and feels great, with a well-designed platform that facilitates fast in-play betting. Live-streams, cash out and a supply of statistical information for all in-play fixtures completes the package. Just like with the pre-match platform, there’s often endless betting options for many events. But is it a case of quantity over quality? Read the review below or head to the bonus review to find out everything you need to know about in-play betting at Paddy Power.

Great In-play Features 7

Just like with its main platform, Paddy Power has made sure to fill the in-play arena with a wealth of betting options. There are endless betting markets here, with many of the quirky bets the bookmaker has become known for available for larger in-play events. On the other hand, there are not too many sports to bet on in-play. Of course, the major sports are present, but with just 10 sports open to in-play betting, the bookmaker ranks towards the lower ends of the spectrum in this area. The fixtures covered for each sport are also not as deep as at many other operators, meaning the betting site is lagging significantly in this area. The bookmaker also doesn’t rank well for the quality of its in-play odds. With an average high of 92.75% – and a bookmaker’s margin of 7.25% – across all sports, Paddy Power ranks second bottom for its in-play odds. Especially low are the in-play odds for football, which at 91.1%, came out lowest of all the operators we tested.

Summary of Live Betting Options

The in-play interface is really great here. The Paddy Power live betting calendar on the left side of the screen keeps things tidy and gives information on all upcoming in-play fixtures and live-streams. Next to this, taking up the centre of the page, is all the in-play fixture information. This can be sorted by sport and each sport has a quick link tab which can be minimised, so everything can be kept neat and tidy. There’s also a fully customisable multi-view option that allows for different in-play events to be dragged and dropped into it, so you can keep tabs on numerous events all in one place. Once in-play for specific fixtures, the logical and aesthetic layout remains. The match infographic sits in the top right of the page, while the scoreboard runs across the centre top. Bet types can be reached via quick link tabs, or by scrolling through the page, where they are vertically listed. In terms of functionality, the platform does exactly what it’s supposed to. Everything runs smoothly, any delays to bets being confirmed are no longer than at other operators and the cash out function is quick enough. It’s a shame that there aren’t more markets for cash out, but the number does seem to be growing all the time. One thing I did notice is that bets are locked due to events in the fixture a lot more frequently here than at many other operators.

Live Streaming

Live-streaming at this bookie is accessed in two different ways, depending on which sport it is you want to view. For horse racing, the streams for races can be accessed directly from the horse racing betting pages. A minimum bet of at least £1 must be made for an event to become available for the Bet and Watch service. This service is only available for customers located in the UK and Ireland and the qualifying bet must be made after 9.30am on the day of the race. Things get a little more complicated if you place a multiple bet on multiple events, but it is still possible to stream all of the races contained in the bet. The general rule is that the total stake, divided by the number of the races in the bet, must be greater or equal to £1. The live stream service here is of a good quality and the coverage is exactly, as you would expect from an Irish bookmaker with a focus on the nags.

For other sports, you can access the Paddy Power Live Sports Streaming service. This will automatically show on the in-play platform when you are logged in and if there is currently a live-stream available, but it can also be viewed in a new pop up window. The window is useful since it contains information on what is currently available, upcoming available fixtures and also an FAQ section. The streams for all sports except horse racing are free to view so long as you are logged into a funded account and have made a bet within the last 24 hours. There are not a huge number of streams for sports other than horse racing, but there is the opportunity to view some fairly large fixtures, especially from France or Spain.

Live Scores and Statistics

The live scores for Paddy Power are provided by Betradar. In-play, the scores are displayed in a scoreboard along the centre of the screen and are accompanied by some statistical information. The stats provided are pretty basic however, with just cards, corners and shots on target provided for smaller football fixtures. This level of detail pales in comparison to some of the other operators, such as Betfair. There is also a commentary feature for larger fixtures and the match infographic. During our tests we did find that the match infographic was not live for many smaller in-play fixtures however.

Scores and statistics from previous events can be viewed via the Paddy Power Results Centre. The service has results for a whole host of sports going back up to three years. It’s especially useful for horse racing, but the information supplied for other fixtures is a little basic on the statistical side. It does however give a full list of bet types and whether they would have won or lost for that fixture. To go further into detail for past football fixtures, there’s also a specialised football stats service, which punters can use to get past results, form and detailed statistics for UK football teams.

Conclusion – Solid Live-streaming and In-play Betting Site

The in-play platform here is very attractive and functions really well. For horse racing however, the bookmaker is one of the better choices out there. Great market coverage, lots of streams with favourable viewing conditions and decent odds, make Paddy Power a sensible choice for fans of betting on the nags.

Pros & Cons of Paddy Power In-play Betting
  • Major Strengths
  • endless betting markets
  • Minor Strengths
  • partial cash out
  • Major Weaknesses
  • none
  • Minor Weaknesses
  • limited cash out markets

However, Paddy Power’s in-play capabilities don’t quite live up to how good the platform looks. There’s a lot less sports available than elsewhere and the leagues and tournaments that are covered in these sports are also significantly less than the in-play leaders, such as the sports betting markets at Coral. The in-play odds are also some of the lowest we encountered, especially for football.
